WASH

SAFWCOWASH programme/thematic area focuses on the following four major objectives;

  • Equitable Access to WASH facilities & services: When it comes to access to facilities, SAFWCO believes that sufficient amount of required quality should be available to serve the community needs without any discrimination. Secondly, the facilities should be stable and environment friendly, where people can access them without any difficulty. Thirdly, the facilities should be sustainable, where communities should be capacitated and enabled to keep the facilities functioning.
  • Behaviour change towards Hygiene: SAFWCO believes that only access to services is not enough to improve and contribute towards healthy livings, unless attitudes and practices are not changed. Hence, it is essential to sensitize and educate the communities on the use and the associated health and economic benefits.
  • Climate Resilience & Sustainability: Resilience and adaptation are essential factors in today’s situations where climate change is evident, along with population growth and urbanization which affects the quantity, quality and reliability of available drinking water and sanitation facilities. Thus SAFWCO considers the current climate change, population growth and risks of hazards in all WASH interventions from need assessment to implementation phase and also to build capacities of the communities to meet the challenges of future due to these factors.

WASH in Emergencies: We provide emergency WASH services in those affected by floods and droughts.  SAFWCO DRR-WASH teams save lives in fragile contexts by trucking water, treating piped water, repairing broken water supply and sanitation systems, drilling wells, building temporary latrines, providing essential hygiene items and delivering hygiene messages.We help control and prevent infection in homes, schools, health-care facilities and public spaces by collaborating with other sectors and local organizations including VO and LSOs to ensure the needs of even the hardest-to-reach families are met.
